"One Day" Writing Project

I typically use this as my first project to highlight the importance of how impactful small acts of kindness can be.

journal of emotion

The primary goal of this project is to bring our emotions to life. Having students reflect on personal experiences while creating a fictional storyline has done a great job in enhancing my students' emotional intelligence.

Poverty Simulation

This activity is used to provide an awareness of the challenges that many of our community members face, while also collaborating as a group to identify ways we can positively impact others.

Musical response

The series of lessons that are provided in this is to provide a way to use music to supplement developing a storyline. Good storytelling provokes an emotional response. This project is engaging and allows students to practice writing in an unconventional way.

Letter of Gratitude

Gratitude is a significant contributor to happiness. This activity provides students an opportunity to reflect on who is contributing to the good stuff that is happening in their lives while also evaluating the impact they are making on others as well.

The Power of Giving

This is a lesson that I blend informative and narrative writing together. I teach text structures to go along with this project while also offering a reflection on how they have been positively impacting others.

Team building

This is a project that has two steps to it. Kyle's story sets the foundation for the team building activity. A large area is encouraged for this, as movement is a critical component of the activity.

compassion

The anchor book for this lesson is "Those Shoes" by Maribeth Boelts. The lesson details the internal challenges that the boy (Jeremy) goes through as he works through his desire to "fit in." Through a series of events, Jeremy learns the value and impact of giving to others.
